What is being done to prevent climate change? What can be done?
The Gillard government's recent introduction of the Carbon Tax is an example of one of the ways that Australia has made an attempt to reduce the effects of climate change.
Although climate change seems like a massive problem that no one can stop, there are in fact many simple everyday tasks that each and every person can carry out to help prevent or at least slow down the rate of climate change. Some of these tasks include:
-walking, riding a bike or catching public transport instead of driving
-take one car instead of two, i.e. double up on car trips: drive your friends and vice versa
-change lightbulbs and appliances to energy-efficient ones
-don't use unnessecary amounts of electricity: turn off lights when not in use, air-dry your clothes (don't use the dryer), unplug appliances not in use, only operate washing-machine and dishwasher with full load, etc.
-buy recycled products in replacement of your usual ones
-plant a tree
These are only a few ways in which you can contribute to a slower rate and ultimately the prevention of climate change.

Can it be prevented? Why/Why not?
I believe that, despite all the effort that has been put in and is being put in, climate change cannot be prevented. However, I do believe that the rate of its progress can be slowed down. Could it have been prevented? No one would have known what our ever-developing world could do to earth. This makes it hard to say that climate change could have been prevented when it was not heard of in the first place.
